The first series, Frank Ferguson Early Life and Education, consists of records related to Frank Ferguson’s primary, secondary, and university education. It includes Frank’s examination records at the Georgetown School. It also includes diaries kept by Frank while he was a student at the University of Toronto, as well as those kept during his young adulthood. The series also includes a number of Frank’s university essays, and a small amount of correspondence by Frank to his contemporaries, reflecting his views on life and religion.
The second series, Frank Ferguson Literary Works and Interests, consist of records reflecting Frank’s literary interests and his published work. This series is divided into Subseries One: Clippings, Ephemera, and Mementos, Subseries Two: Published Work, Subseries Three: Subject Files, Subseries Four: Notes and Analysis, and Subseries Five: Lectures.
Subseries One consists of various theatre programmes, Shakespearean exhibition booklets, Stratford-Upon-Avon tourist guides, book catalogues and order forms, and various newspaper clippings pertaining to Shakespeare. Subseries two consists of Frank’s published work, including his edited textbooks of “King Lear” and Julius Caesar,” as well as correspondence from his publisher, Clarke, Irwin & Company. Subseries Three consists of Frank’s subject files on various Shakespeare plays and literary topics. These files include clippings and bibliographical notes. Subseries Four consists of Frank’s handwritten notes and analysis of various Shakespeare plays, likely related to his published work. Subseries Five consists of records related to Frank’s Shakespearean lectures at the Cambridge Public library. This includes lecture notes, event posters, library newsletters, and newspaper clippings related to the lecture series.
The third series, Frank Ferguson Teaching, consists of records related to Frank Ferguson’s teaching career. These include clippings related to Frank’s teaching and retirement from Galt Collegiate Institute, programmes from various G.C.I. reunions and events, copies of “Specula Galtonia,” (the G.C.I. yearbook), examination booklets, as well as articles and notes related to Frank’s professional development as a teacher. This series also includes clippings related to Frank’s former students. Finally, this series includes correspondence and records relating to Frank’s membership in the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation.
The fourth series, Frank Ferguson Books and Articles, consists of a small number of books and articles from Frank and Grace Ferguson’s library, including the copy of Shakespeare’s “As You Like It,” that Frank used as a high school student.
The fifth series, Frank Ferguson Politics, includes records related to Frank Ferguson’s political career and interests. This includes various newsletters, correspondence, and party literature related to the CCF and NDP. It also includes clippings related to Frank Ferguson’s candidacy for the CCF in the 1945 federal election.
The sixth series, Ferguson Family, includes records created and collected by various members of the Ferguson family. It is divided into Subseries One: Correspondence and Clippings, Subseries Two: Graeme Ferguson and IMAX, Subseries Three: Family Photographs, Subseries Four: Family History, Subseries Five: Family Films, Subseries Six: Galt, Puslinch, and Cambridge Clippings, and Subseries Seven: William Ferguson Theatre Programmes.
The first subseries consists of a collection of correspondence between various Ferguson and Warner family members, correspondence between Frank, Grace, and their family friends that had been arranged into subject files. These files also include clippings highlighting milestones in the lives of Grace and Frank Ferguson (a scrapbook of newspaper clippings of historic events, various clippings pertaining to Grace and Frank’s anniversary and birthday celebration), as well as records related to the final arrangements for Grace and Frank Ferguson (wills, obituaries, etc.).
The second subseries consists of records related to Graeme Ferguson and IMAX. These include newspaper and magazine clippings, as well as award ceremony programmes, and an IMAX “Destiny in Space” themed calendar.
The third subseries consists of various family photographs that were otherwise not arranged in and amongst the Ferguson family’s subject files.
The fourth subseries consists of records related to the family’s efforts to compile a family history. This includes correspondence, photographs, genealogical notes and family trees, a synopsis of oral history interviews conducted by Mark Ferguson with various Ferguson family members, as well as books and articles.
The fifth subseries consists of Ferguson family home movies, on Super 8mm film, as well as those films transferred to VHS, MiniDV, and DVD. These films document the family home, life in Puslinch, travels abroad, Grace and Frank’s children and grandchildren, and various family friends.
The sixth subseries consists of records related to Galt, Cambridge, Puslinch, and the surrounding area. This includes newspaper clippings, tourist brochures, and Frank’s research notes on various aspects of Galt history.
The seventh subseries consists of a collection of various theatre programmes and ticket stubs, predominantly from the Stratford and Shaw Festivals, likely contributed to the collection by William Ferguson.
